A&O Shearman aligns London NQ and trainee pay at £125,000 ahead of merger

Allen & Overy and Shearman & Sterling set London newly qualified solicitor salaries at £125,000 for the combined firm, A&O Shearman, ahead of their merger.

First-year trainee salaries were set at £50,000 and second-year salaries at £55,000, with the aligned rates scheduled to take effect in September. The new bands matched Allen & Overy’s existing rates and were lower than those previously paid by Shearman & Sterling.

The firms said the alignment was part of the merger transition and that performance-related bonuses would sit on top of base pay. The change applied to both trainees and newly qualified lawyers.
